I’ve found that exercising over lunch is the most productive. You know, after 6 years of military service, I’ve never liked getting up early. If I don’t have to, I won’t. I do love the peace that seems ever-present in a house that is still sleeping, as the sunrise creeps through the windows. The world is fresh and pleasant in the early morning. More than once I have been present to observe the beauty of the sunrise, sometimes joined by one of my daughters whose internal clock is set by the sun. “The sun’s awake” was Karley’s mantra and the only excuse she needed to spring out of bed. It was usually short lived- as I rushed out to a formation, unit run or meeting. The army attempts drain the life and fun out of anything. So it is an unfortunate loss that I prefer to sleep through the sunrise rather than allow them to spoil it for me.
The afternoon workouts also jumpstart my heart and mind to make it through the afternoon, when again the siren song of sleep and the miracle known as a napping calls to me.

the military should train you in napping just like the japanese corporations, 10 minute naps all day long to keep you alert when you're awake...I'm with you, I love the sunrise, just not enough to get up early to see it! maybe this summer, as it is an hour later right now...I'll be thinking of you when I'm watching it rise.
